Organised Sqautting 1968- 2012

Description

This is a collection that Chris Jones, resident at MDR, created based on his research on the politics of organised squatting in London from 1968 to the present day. The questions that oriented his collection of materials were: how does organised squatting look like, then and now? what can squatting learn from its own tense history as a radical part of the housing movement? what can we learn from the past conflicts of gender, race and class politics within organised squatting? what can we learn against the diversions squatting can take e.g. professionalism, voluntarism or adventurism? how do we evaluate such moments in the light of political conditions now? The collection unfolds this history, and is catalogued thematically as sets of items. A publication will accompany the collection can be found here: https://maydayrooms.org/publication/squatting-is-part-of-the-housing-movement-practical-squatting-histories-from-1968-to-2019/
